That thought led me to pondering the question of “Do you really want freedom?” My general sense is that most people want freedom for themselves but not quite so much for those around them, particularly if their beliefs don’t mesh.
One of my favorite definitions is that of “patience.” It says: Patience is that which we demand from the car behind us… and despise in the car in front of us.
I suspect that a lot of people’s feelings about freedom are somewhat like that. Freedom is that which we demand for those who believe what we do… and despise in the people who believe differently.
